Major League Baseball consists
of two leagues: The National League (founded 1876) and the American League
(1901). In October, the World Series is played between the champions from each
league (best-of-seven games).
In the National League, the pitcher must hit for
himself. The American League is using the designated hitter rule (DH). In the World
Series, a DH can be used (by both teams) only at American League ballparks.
